Thursday, April 13, 2023 Rizal Sebastian will give his inauguration speech at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

Title of his speech: Through an inclusive approach, we build sustainable and smart cities!

Dr Rizal Sebastian was appointed Professor of Future Urban Systems at The Hague University of Applied Sciences on May 1, 2022. His research group is part of the Centre of Expertise Mission Zero and the Faculty of Technology, Innovation and Society.

In his inauguration speech, Rizal will present the research agenda of his group, which focuses on the pivotal role that cities play with respect to people’s well-being and the sustainability of the environment. The implementation of smart transitions in urban areas towards renewable energy, climate neutrality and circular construction is urgent. Such transitions require an inclusive approach that involves urban communities themselves, while, simultaneously, capitalizing on the increasing availability and affordability of digitalization as an enabler of smart cities.

The Taraxacum Foundation will participate in the knowledge marketplace that will be organized around the lecture program to stimulate a creative dialogue between practitioners, researchers, educators and students.

It will be the first time Taraxacum presents itself at a public event. At our market stall, we will present our first project: A Home for Taraxacum, a 100% circular built residence that in 2024 will become our home for co-living, research, and shared knowledge.

In a good smart city, the human aspect always comes first. After all, cities are there for the people, not the other way around.
